Walgett Shire Council Connect Newsletter

Walgett Shire Council has launched a new monthly digital newsletter to provide a central source of community news, Council updates and event information.

Until now, Council has relied on Facebook, website updates and street flyers to communicate with residents. These methods were not always effective — flyers were often removed, website visits tended to be purpose-driven, and changes to Facebook’s algorithms meant important updates were not consistently reaching the community. In one recent week alone, Council published more than 16 social media posts, yet feedback showed many residents still missed key news, initiatives and community events.

The Community Strategic Plan highlighted the need for improved communication channels. While the residents’ newsletter will still included with rates notices this quarter, print and postage timelines often meant information was weeks out of date by the time it arrived. The new digital newsletter addresses this gap, providing timely updates on Council decisions, services and community events throughout the year.
