The Knights Quarters Lightning Ridge

The Knights Quarters Lightning Ridge
Stay on the opalfields, off grid and next door to the iconic Ridge Castle. Deceptively rustic from the outside, the Knights Quarters is an elegant open plan apartment featuring a full sized kitchen, large bathroom and a Queen and King single bed with luxe organic cotton linen.
Enjoy the views and relax by the fire-pit at night under billions of stars.
Remember this is a genuine mining camp on the Ridge so don't expect five star accommodation. It can be hot in summer and cold in winter!

The space

The Knights Quarters is a quirky structure and was the home of local miners for many years and as with most camps in Lightning Ridge, it features rustic living.

There is a fresh and light amply sized, floor to ceiling tiled internal bathroom with hot and cold water for the shower and a flush loo!

The well equipped kitchen has a stove, microwave, fridge and enough kitchenware to cook up a small banquet.

The Knights Quarters Castle is on solar power and though it is not strong enough to run the split system air-conditioner, there are portable water coolers you can use through the day.

Warm clothes will be needed inside during winter and there is an open fire in the grounds for starry fireside evenings. We’ll provide the firewood.

There is a Queen bed and a King single, we supply organic cotton linen and towels.

The open plan lounge area is spacious and comfortable.
A large flat screen TV is available if admiring the stars gets too much!

Staying in the Knights Quarters is a wonderful experience, the perfect place to explore the mining fields of Lightning Ridge. The famous Artesian Bore Baths (free and open 24/7) are a short drive or long stroll away.

Guest access

There is a working mine on site which you cannot go down.
There is a fire pit and wood stack in the backyard, with a great view to the eastern plains.
You are next to the Ridge Castle, and may meet the guests there from time to time! There are no shared spaces.

Other things to note

We have a 2 night minimum stay but highly recommend a 3 night minimum (ideally 5 nights) so you have time to relax, enjoy the slower Ridge time and still experience all the delights Lightning Ridge and the surrounding opal fields have to offer! You will have driven a long way to get here so you might as well make the most of it!

This is a rustic mining camp. This is why you are coming to experience life like the locals. It is not the Hilton so Paris would be sad.

Winter nights in the Ridge can get cold. There is no internal heating.
You can have an open campfire in one of the Courtyards though and we have lots of extra bedding. We suggest warm clothes for inside and outside.

There is an active mine on site, more a dirt than opal mine...but maybe next time!
